My Mind's Eye is Blind

My mind’s eye is blind. I have aphantasia or the inability to conjure visual imagery in my mind. This impacts my fictional writing when I’m trying to describe something, but as an artist it is particularly annoying. I need a reference image in front of me all the time, even in order to remember how to draw one of my own characters. I’ll probably never have the kind of characters that look exactly the same from page to page, with not a single line out of place, but at least once I’ve drawn an image a hundred times I do remember how I did it. Journo’s head for example is basically a rectangle and his nose are two 6s. But I just know this, I cannot picture it. So I do things like in this picture, where I’ve pulled up a previously drawn page in order to get the faces to look right.
