This is me in 1979 with Buttercup, one of our Saanen goats in the corral I helped my father build. Like my character Ki, I was raised on a small farm outside of Pocatello, Idaho. His morning chores are based on my own, the description of the goat barn and milking stanchion reference the ones we built, and the incidents that Ki experiences while milking also reflect my own: including ending up drenched in milk after one of the goats sent a bucket into the air with a well placed hoof. I too have danced a crazy jig.
